I create one-of-a-kind, intimate and authentic photographs for those looking to tell their story.

I’M ANDREAS, A TORONTO AREA DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER.

  • Documentary photography allows me to capture the honest and authentic story of whatever I’m photographing — whether that’s an intimate wedding, a private family event, or the daily operations of a business or organization.

  • I have worked in the creative space as a photographer, graphic designer, and retoucher for over thirty years, and I’ve spent just over twenty of those years telling visual stories for others with my intimate and candid first person’s style of photography.

  • I use this documentary / reportage approach to photography because the results are honest, genuine and far more authentic than staging or manufacturing a moment to happen.

  • While I show mostly monochrome images in my portfolio, the photographs I create can be presented in either colour or monochrome.

My Motto: Moments over perfection.

Documentary photography and reportage style visual storytelling is the best way to capture the authenticity of the moments at any type of event.

Whether that’s a wedding, an engagement party, a family anniversary, or capturing the story of a business or organization, authentic documentary photography is a powerful way of telling the human side of the story, and it’s an inclusive visual story telling language that is understood by everyone.

“Andreas, your beautiful black and white photographs are full of colour in that they convey emotion and intimacy so beautifully…”

Behind the lens. Meet Andreas

Long before ever photographing a wedding, or even picking up a camera, I was drawn to the very intimate, very emotional, very raw photography of war photographers.

Despite the dark subject matter, these images fascinated me. Imagine being that person, in that intense and dangerous environment, and then creating an image that could influence policy or show the truth of what most people don’t get to see.

To be able to create images that not only tell that story, but that are creatively interesting is an incredible skill to have.

I started my creative work as a designer and photo illustrator, working in advertising with agencies like BBDO, JWT, Interbrand and Saatchi.

I transitioned into photography by way of working as a retoucher and illustrator on these projects, and eventually began producing my own commercial photography, doing work for companies such as Porsche Canada, Chrysler, Scott Thornley, Ove Design, Glove and Mail and Loblaw Brands.

My first wedding was photographed back in 2003, and since then I’ve documented hundreds of multicultural weddings, ranging in scale from a few guests to over eight hundred.

The majority of my work is made at events in the Toronto area, although I’ve also travelled abroad to France, Italy, Greece Japan and across the US to do this work.

On a more personal level, I’ve been married for the past 21 years, and I live north of Guelph in Fergus Ontario with my wife and our daughters. I can be reached during business hours by calling me, or you can send me an email to talk about your photography needs.
